3 First (Worst) Teaching Days – #1 – Riverview, NB – If I Could Only Make it There

A teacher for over 8 years and in various schools around the country, my journey was filled with happiness, laughter, fear, nervousness and countless other emotions, often at the same time. Students have a unique way of touching your heart, driving you completely insane, and making you proud all at once. The first day of the school year can often set the tone for the entire year. It can be a stressful day naturally, but when you add a first day curse things can get out of hand. I’ve experienced the craziest first days during my career; including no heat over night in -50 degrees, going to the hospital with a concussion, and not making it to work because of a freak storm disaster. They are powerful enough to make you question entering the teaching profession altogether. Follow me on my first days of disaster and teaching.

Robert Waterhouse Execution Today

Robert Waterhouse, on Florida’s Death Row for more than 30 years, is scheduled for execution today at 6 pm. I first became aware of this case when I was researching out Thomas Lafoe’s new Regional Attorney in the case of Jeff Norton’s murder. Here is a link from the Associated Press describing the case.

Florida Power Trimming Trees

Florida Power is trimming trees near power lines this week and most likely next week as well. Keep your eyes out for the trucks as they sometimes have to park in the road to get the job done. Thank goodness they’re getting to this before we have power interruptions due to the trees as we’ve had in the past.

The Treasures Down the Road

Everyone in Tangerine knows that there’s a huge flea market/antique mall 4 miles north of us on US 441. I wonder how many people have been there. When it’s open on the weekends, its population is easily double or triple that of Tangerine. Yet the only thing we really notice about it is the traffic going in or out.Well, I took a trip out there and got a few photos of what’s up in that big building on the hill. {There’s people set up out in the field too.}
